Ontario Regulation 369/09 + Highway Traffic Act · Province of Ontario
§The Law
O. Reg 369/09 + HTA — Ontario Regulation 369/09 + Highway Traffic Act
“An electric bicycle that does not meet all requirements of O. Reg 369/09 is classified as a moped or motor-assisted cycle under the Highway Traffic Act, requiring a valid driver's licence (Class M or G), vehicle registration, licence plate, and insurance.”
View official regulation text✓Plain English
If an e-bike is over 500W, over 120 kg, has no working pedals, exceeds 32 km/h, or is missing the bilingual label — it is no longer a PAB. It becomes a moped, requiring a licence, registration, plate, and insurance. The classification is determined by the bike's specifications, not how you feel about it.
