Product details

PWC Licence Number Decals are a matching left-and-right character pair for the exact Pleasure Craft Licence (PCL) number shown on the buyer's current or temporary PCL document. Choose a finished character height and a treatment that contrasts with the hull at the installation area.

Start with the PCL document

Copy the exact PCL number from the document issued for this personal watercraft. Do not enter a Hull Identification Number, an operator-card number, a number copied from another craft or a registered-vessel official number.

What the federal display direction says

When a PWC is in the Canadian PCL regime, Transport Canada directs the owner to display the PCL number on each side of the bow, above the waterline, in block characters at least 7.5 cm (3 inches) tall and in a colour that contrasts with the background.

Read the current Transport Canada PCL marking guidance.

Choose from the live PWC options

  • Finished character height: 3 inches (76 mm) or 4 inches (100 mm).
  • Standard colours: White, Black, Gold or Red.
  • Optional reflective finishes and a custom-colour treatment with reflective outline are also available in the live selector.
  • Reflectivity is a product choice, not a federal PCL requirement.

Check the curved bow area before ordering

Transport Canada publishes no smaller-character exception for a PWC. Measure the usable area on both sides of the bow before selecting 3-inch or 4-inch characters. The selected size is the finished visible character height, not the carrier sheet, outline or overall decal width. Add the hull colour and any placement notes in the order intake so the contrast and available area can be checked.

PCL decals are not registered-vessel markings

A Pleasure Craft Licence and Canadian vessel registration are separate programmes. This product reproduces the exact PCL number from the buyer's PCL document. A certificate of registry can require an official number, registered name or port markings that follow different directions.

Product boundary

These decals do not issue, transfer, renew or update a Pleasure Craft Licence. They do not replace a PCL document or the markings directed by a certificate of registry. Confirm the document type and exact number before ordering.

Questions buyers ask

Which number should I enter for my PWC decals?

Enter the exact Pleasure Craft Licence number shown on the current or temporary PCL document for that PWC. Do not use the Hull Identification Number, an operator-card number or a number copied from another craft.

Does every PWC need a Pleasure Craft Licence number?

No blanket rule covers every PWC. The federal PCL regime applies when the craft meets the use, propulsion and Canadian-operation conditions in the Small Vessel Regulations and is not registered instead. Start with the document issued for the craft.

Can PWC licence numbers be smaller than 3 inches?

Transport Canada publishes no smaller PWC exception. For a PWC in the PCL regime, the number is displayed in block characters at least 7.5 cm (3 inches) tall. The live options are 3-inch and 4-inch finished character heights.

Do I need a number on both sides of the PWC?

Yes. Transport Canada's PCL marking direction calls for the number on each side of the bow above the waterline. This product is a matching left-and-right pair.

Are reflective PWC licence numbers required?

No. The published PCL direction requires a colour that contrasts with the background. Reflective and reflective-outline finishes are optional product choices.

Is a PCL number the same as a registered-vessel marking?

No. Pleasure craft licensing and Canadian vessel registration are separate programmes. A certificate of registry can call for an official number, registered name or port markings that are outside this PCL decal product.
