When Is Boat Name Lettering Required?
Large Vessel Registration (Required)
Vessels over 15 gross tonnage OR commercial vessels should be registered under the Canada Shipping Act. Registered vessels should verify display requirements for:
- ✓ Vessel name on both sides of the bow and stern
- ✓ Port of registry on the stern
- ✓ Official number inside the hull
- ✓ Letters minimum 100mm (4") on the bow, 75mm (3") on the stern
Pleasure Craft (Optional but Recommended)
Pleasure craft under 15 GT with a PCL don't legally need a boat name. But most owners want one for:
