Pass MTO Roadside Inspection

Ontario Highway Traffic Act s.109 requires every commercial motor vehicle over 4,500 kg to display its registered gross vehicle weight on both sides. MTO officers check this during every roadside inspection. Missing or illegible decals = instant violation.

Where to Display

Both sides of the vehicle, forward half. Must be visible from 15 metres away. Not obstructed by doors, equipment, or cargo.

Size & Format

Minimum 50mm (2") letter height. Contrasting colour to vehicle body. Format: "GVW XX,XXX KG" or "GVWR XX,XXX KG".

Penalties

Failure to display: $85-$500 fine. Displaying incorrect weight: $200-$20,000 fine plus potential out-of-service order.
