Owner-name door lettering for Ontario commercial vehicles, with optional operator certificate and fleet reference details. Every pair contains two matching lettering sets, one for each vehicle side. Choose the letter height, finish and number of vehicle pairs, then enter the exact wording for the proof.
What Ontario requires
Ontario Highway Traffic Act section 103(1) requires a commercial motor vehicle to show the owner's name in a clearly visible position on both sides, subject to regulatory exemptions. Separately, the operator certificate rules require the applicable certificate or copy to be carried in the vehicle and produced on request.
The reviewed requirements do not state that the operator certificate number must appear on the exterior, and they do not prescribe 2, 3 or 4 inch letters or reflective material. This product therefore treats the owner name as the primary marking. Add a operator certificate number only when you want it shown as optional fleet reference information.
Choose the right lettering
- 2 inch / 50 mm: compact lettering for tight panels where the full owner name remains clearly visible.
- 3 inch / 75 mm: the balanced, most-popular choice for many commercial truck doors.
- 4 inch / 100 mm: larger lettering for wide doors or body panels with enough usable space.
- Standard White: a clean high-contrast daytime finish.
- Reflective White: added low-light visibility.
- Reflective White with Black Outline: reflective lettering with a dark edge for contrast on light vehicles.
One pair covers one vehicle. Five-pair and ten-pair fleet packs provide matching two-side identification for multiple vehicles.
Information needed for the proof
- Enter the exact vehicle owner name that should appear on both sides.
- Add the operator certificate number, unit number, city or terminal only when you want those optional details printed.
- Provide the vehicle or door colour so the selected finish can be checked for contrast.
- Review and approve the proof before production.
This is a custom lettering product. It does not issue or renew a operator certificate certificate, confirm whether a vehicle is exempt, or replace documents that must be carried in the vehicle.

Product authority snapshot
| Specification | Requirement | Primary reference |
|---|---|---|
| Exterior owner-name sign | Every commercial motor vehicle must have the owner's name attached or painted on both sides in a clearly visible position, subject to any regulatory exemptions. | Ontario Highway Traffic Act, s. 103(1) |
| CVOR certificate in the vehicle | A vehicle operating under a CVOR must carry the applicable certificate or copy, and it must be produced to an enforcement or police officer on request. | Ontario Highway Traffic Act, s. 16; Ontario CVOR guidance |
| Different registration name | If the vehicle is not registered in the same name as the CVOR certificate, Ontario guidance says the vehicle also needs documents linking it to that CVOR. | Ontario CVOR guidance - Carrying your certificate |
| Who generally needs a CVOR | Ontario lists trucks over 4,500 kg registered or actual weight, buses with 10 or more passenger seats, concrete pumps, mobile cranes and tow trucks, with stated exemptions. | Ontario CVOR guidance - Who needs a certificate |
| CVOR number, size and reflectivity boundary | The reviewed owner-name and certificate requirements do not state that the CVOR number must appear on the exterior or prescribe 2, 3 or 4 inch letters or reflective material. Those are order and visibility choices, not stated legal minimums. | Ontario Highway Traffic Act, ss. 16 and 103(1) |
| What this product supplies | Each pair supplies matching owner-name lettering for both vehicle sides. A CVOR number, unit number, city or terminal can be added as optional fleet information when provided by the buyer. | Current product offer |
Questions buyers ask
Does Ontario require a CVOR number on the outside of a truck?
The reviewed Ontario requirements separate the duties: the owner name is displayed on both vehicle sides, while the CVOR certificate or copy is carried in the vehicle. They do not state an exterior CVOR-number requirement. Add the CVOR number only when you want it as fleet reference information.
What wording is required on both sides of an Ontario commercial vehicle?
Highway Traffic Act section 103(1) requires a clearly visible sign showing the vehicle owner's name on both sides, subject to regulatory exemptions. Use the exact owner name that applies to the vehicle.
Are 2, 3 or 4 inch letters a legal CVOR minimum?
No specific 2, 3 or 4 inch minimum was found in the reviewed owner-name and CVOR-certificate requirements. Choose a height that remains clearly visible on the available door or body panel.
What comes in one CVOR door lettering pair?
One pair contains two matching lettering sets: one for the driver side and one for the passenger side. Five-pair and ten-pair fleet packs supply the same two-side format for multiple vehicles.
Should I choose standard or reflective owner-name lettering?
Choose Standard White for a clean high-contrast daytime mark, Reflective White for added low-light visibility, or Reflective White with Black Outline when a light door needs a dark edge. Reflectivity is an offer choice, not a stated CVOR requirement in the reviewed provisions.
What information do I submit for the proof?
Submit the exact vehicle owner name, vehicle or door colour, and any optional CVOR reference, unit number, city or terminal wording. The proof must be approved before production.

| Standard or reflective finish | Standard White, Reflective White, or Reflective White with Black Outline. | Choose for contrast and visibility; the reviewed CVOR rules do not prescribe reflective material. |
