Product details

Make the fire department connection easy to identify without guessing at wording, size or placement. This listing supplies one custom aluminium identification sign in three live sizes. Use wording already confirmed in approved drawings, the fire safety plan, system records or by the local fire department or qualified professional responsible for the system.

Choose the exact live sign size

  • 12×12" — Standard FDC — $89.99 CAD
  • 12×18" — Multi-Zone — $149.99 CAD
  • 18×24" — Large Building — $229.99 CAD

Standard FDC, Multi-Zone and Large Building are retail option labels. They do not establish the size, system designation, zone arrangement or Building Code classification for a property. Match the selected size to approved wording and the viewing need at the confirmed mounting location.

What Ontario's Fire Code actually requires

Ontario Fire Code O. Reg. 213/07, Division B, Sentence 2.5.1.2.(2), requires fire department sprinkler and standpipe connections to be clearly identified and maintained free of obstructions for use at all times.

For standpipe FDC piping, Sentence 6.4.3.7.(3) requires an annual inspection that includes checking whether the connection is physically unobstructed and readily accessible and whether its identification sign is in place and visible.

Those clauses do not prescribe the three retail dimensions on this page or one universal wording layout. They also do not turn a purchased sign into approval of the sprinkler or standpipe system.

Confirm the wording before checkout

Enter the exact wording from the property's approved drawings, fire safety plan, system records or written direction from the local fire department or responsible qualified professional. That may include the connection type, system served, zone, address or directional information when the property documents call for it.

Ontario identifies the local fire department as the authority for fire safety matters in its municipality. Use the province's fire prevention and protection guidance to find the right local authority when the property documents are unclear.

The current Building Code is a separate design obligation

Ontario's current Building Code is adopted by O. Reg. 163/24. This sign does not design, alter, inspect, approve or certify the building's fire protection system. It does not replace permit drawings, a fire safety plan or work by the professionals responsible for the system.

Mount it where the approved documents direct

Confirm the wall or mounting surface, suitable hardware, viewing direction and placement before installation. Keep the connection, caps, fittings and fire department access route visible and unobstructed. A remote or directional sign may be needed when the connection itself is not readily visible, but that need must be confirmed for the property.

No mounting hardware, installation service, system review, inspection, permit or approval is included with the three available sizes.

Five checks before ordering

  1. Copy the exact approved FDC wording and system designation.
  2. Confirm whether one sign, a directional sign or additional identification is required.
  3. Confirm the sign size and viewing location with the local authority or responsible professional.
  4. Measure the mounting area and keep all fire department equipment and access clear.
  5. Select 12×12, 12×18 or 18×24 inches and enter the confirmed wording in the product intake.

Order the physical identifier after the property-specific details are confirmed. The sign supports clear identification; the building owner and responsible professionals retain the design, installation, maintenance and approval obligations.

Questions buyers ask

What does Ontario require for an FDC identification sign?

Ontario Fire Code Sentence 2.5.1.2.(2) requires fire department sprinkler and standpipe connections to be clearly identified and kept free of obstructions. For standpipe FDC piping, Sentence 6.4.3.7.(3) includes checking annually that the identification sign is in place and visible.

Is 12 by 12 inches the Ontario-required FDC sign size?

Not under the Fire Code clauses cited on this page. The 12×12-inch choice is the smallest live retail option, not a universal code-prescribed size. Confirm the required size and visibility for the property before ordering.

What wording should go on the sign?

Use the exact wording and system designation already confirmed in approved drawings, the fire safety plan, system records or written direction from the local fire department or responsible qualified professional. Do not infer the wording from the product option name.

How do I choose between the three live sizes?

Choose 12×12 inches for a compact approved message, 12×18 inches when confirmed system or zone wording needs more room, or 18×24 inches when the approved location calls for the largest live format. Multi-Zone and Large Building are retail labels, not code classifications.

Where should the FDC sign be mounted?

Follow the approved building documents and local fire department direction. The sign must support clear identification without obstructing the sprinkler or standpipe connection, its fittings or the fire department access route.

Does ordering this sign approve the FDC installation?

No. This product is an identification sign only. It does not design, inspect, approve or certify a sprinkler or standpipe system and does not replace permits, approved drawings, a fire safety plan or required professional work.

Are mounting hardware and installation included?

No mounting hardware or installation service is included with the three available sizes. Confirm the wall or mounting surface, suitable hardware and approved placement separately.
