What this page does and does not claim
The Act sets reflective-material dimensions and timing rules for the rider and the vehicle. It is not a product-certification scheme, and no body certifies reflective kits under this section. Only Ontario and the California example are cited here because those are the requirements confirmed against the source text — other provinces and states set their own rules, so check the requirement where you ride.
Ontario e-bike PAB label kit
Order manufacturer-authorized data-label reproductions or clearly separate dealer, rental-fleet, service, recovery and asset labels. This product does not make a bicycle qualify as a power-assisted bicycle and is not government approval or manufacturer certification. It is an identification label — it is not the rider-installed reflective material described above.
Choose the label finish
- White vinyl: high contrast on dark or coloured frames.
- Black vinyl: a lower-contrast visual fit on light, silver, grey or white frames.
- Reflective white: a high-visibility option for fleet, rental and service identification; it is not presented as an Ontario requirement.
Choose the pack size
Select a 2-label kit, 5-pack, 10-pack or 25-pack. The finished label is approximately 3 inches wide by 1.75 inches high (76 mm by 44 mm); this is a product dimension, not a universal Ontario legal minimum.
Information required for production
For a manufacturer-context label, provide the manufacturer or authorized source, exact wording or artwork, model or serial scope, dimensions and approval contact. For a separate fleet or asset label, provide the fleet wording, numbering, contact or QR destination, preferred size and placement.
Proof before production
We provide a proof for text, layout, finish and quantity review. A printed label cannot correct an over-powered, over-speed, overweight, pedal-less or otherwise non-qualifying vehicle. Confirm the actual bicycle against the current Ontario requirements and manufacturer records.
Frequently Asked Questions
What reflective material does Ontario require on an e-bike?
White reflective material on the front forks and red reflective material of at least 250 mm by 25 mm on the rear, under Highway Traffic Act s.62(17). The same section covers bicycles and motor-assisted bicycles.
Does this label kit satisfy the reflector requirement?
No. This is an identification label. The reflective material described in s.62(17) is separate rider-installed material on the forks and rear of the bicycle.
Is the reflective white finish required by Ontario?
No. Reflective white is offered as a visibility option for dealer, rental and service identification. It is not presented as an Ontario requirement.
Do the same rules apply outside Ontario?
No. Each province and state sets its own requirements. California, for example, specifies a rear reflector visible at 500 ft plus pedal and side reflectors under Vehicle Code s.21201(d).
Does buying this kit make a bicycle a power-assisted bicycle?
No. A printed label cannot change the motor output, speed, weight or pedals of the actual vehicle.

Product source and requirement record
| Specification | Requirement | Primary reference |
|---|---|---|
| Label role | Use this kit only to reproduce manufacturer-authorized vehicle information or to create a clearly separate fleet or asset label. A privately printed label does not by itself establish PAB classification. | Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 1 definition of power-assisted bicycle |
| Power and assisted speed | Verify the actual bicycle: Ontario guidance states a motor not exceeding 500 W and a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h. A label cannot correct an over-powered or over-speed vehicle. | Ontario e-bike requirements and O. Reg. 369/09, s. 7 |
| Weight and wheel dimensions | Maximum unladen weight is 120 kg. Wheels must be at least 35 mm wide and at least 350 mm in diameter. | O. Reg. 369/09, ss. 1-2 |
| Equipment remains controlling | The bicycle must retain operable pedals and meet the applicable battery, motor, terminal, braking, modification, and working-order requirements. Correct label text does not replace those requirements. | Highway Traffic Act, s. 1; O. Reg. 369/09, ss. 3-8 |
| Label size and wording | The reviewed Ontario sources do not provide a universal retail replacement-label size, colour, finish, bilingual layout, or seller certification statement. Supply the manufacturer-authorized artwork or exact approved wording with the order. | Highway Traffic Act, s. 1; O. Reg. 369/09 |
Questions buyers ask
What is this Ontario PAB label kit for?
Use it to reproduce manufacturer-authorized vehicle information or to create a clearly separate dealer, rental-fleet, service, recovery, or asset label. Supply the authorized wording or operational information with the order.
Does adding this label establish Ontario PAB status?
No. A printed label is not government approval, manufacturer certification, or proof that the bicycle meets Ontario's PAB definition and equipment requirements.
Which Ontario e-bike specifications should I verify?
Verify the actual bicycle and current rules. Ontario guidance states a motor not exceeding 500 W, a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h, a maximum weight of 120 kg, working pedals, minimum wheel dimensions, and required equipment.
What information is required before production?
For a manufacturer-context label, provide the manufacturer or authorized source, exact wording or artwork, model or serial scope, dimensions, and approval contact. For a fleet label, provide the fleet wording, numbering, contact or QR destination, size, and placement.
Are bilingual wording, reflective material, or a specific label size universally required?
The reviewed Ontario sources do not prescribe a universal retail replacement-label size, colour, finish, bilingual layout, or seller certification statement. Choose those options from the manufacturer-authorized specification or your operational need.
Where should a separate fleet or asset label be placed?
Place it where it remains readable without covering or being confused with the manufacturer label, serial number, or other required information. Mark it clearly as Fleet ID or Asset ID when confusion is possible.
Ordering comparison
| Buyer need | Choose this product when | Information required |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer-authorized data-label reproduction | You have manufacturer-authorized wording or artwork and need durable printed labels in practical pack quantities. | Manufacturer or authorized source, exact label text, model or serial scope, dimensions, and approved artwork. |
| Dealer or rental-fleet identification | You need a distinct fleet ID, asset number, owner contact, service field, or QR label that will not be confused with the manufacturer label. | Fleet wording, numbering sequence, contact or QR destination, preferred size, and placement. |
| Vehicle does not meet Ontario PAB requirements | Do not use a printed label as a correction or self-certification. Confirm the vehicle specification with the manufacturer or appropriate authority first. | No label is produced as proof that a non-qualifying vehicle is compliant. |
